Finally in Haiti

February 9, 2010

Hello everyone.  So here we go.

I am finally in Haiti in a small town Marshe-Canard, and this is how I ended up here.

At the airport I looked around everywhere and tried to find some relief groups to go in to Port-au-Prince with but most of them only had room for their groups.  After being in there for an hour I met up with a guy named Brent who had a guy coming to pick him up and take him to his mission to help out.  I hitched a ride with them and on the way here the gentelman “St. Claire” asked that I be in charge of the medical services for the small village that we are living in.  There are about 6000 people here so we will see what happens.

Last night was rather interesting when we got to the border and it was closed and the hotels were too far away.  I ended up talking with the Dominican Republic border guards/military guys and joking around with them.  they let Brent, St. Claire and myself sleep on the porch of their barracks.  I tell you what, that was the best 4 hours of sleep I have had in the last 3 days.  We finally got through customs this morning and 3 hours later arrived in the town.

So I will be here until Friday when the nurse gets in from Sheboygan and i can catch her up to speed on what is available.  I will be leaving for Port-au-prince and will be working there the rest of my time.

For now I have no cell service but should be up and running come Friday.

Peace and love to all

first test blog from the DR

February 8, 2010

This is just a quick test blog to see if it works

im at the airport

February 8, 2010

So this is my first official post on my blog for the haiti trip. From here on out please disregard mispellings and such since I’m doing this all from my phone.

First and foremost I want to thank those who made this possible through their contributions. Thank you so much mom, dad, abuela, grandma and grandpa, and emily. A huge thank you goes to linda wagner, peter brandice, and roger palmenberg, and dillards dept store. I also want to thank chip, charles, scrappy, kami, kade, marianne, jim, john, uncle glen, hermann, and everyone else who donated their money and resources for me.

So the truth is I’m a little nervous but that’s expected. I’m hoping to be put to work as soon as humanly possible. I’m going to try and post photos on this blog but I’ve got to see if I can do it from my BB. If this works we should be starting off with the one I just took from the airport.

Anyway. I love all of you very much and look forward to your emails.

If you pick up your latest copy of Savvy Magazine you will find that the ever so wonderful Avril Lavigne is on the cover.  I had the opportunity to photograph Avril in LA about 5 weeks ago and she was so easy to work with, very laid back and incredible in front of the camera.  We did the entire shoot in just under 2 hours and most of that time was spent chatting it up and joking around.   Avril is extremely sweet and I’m so glad I had the chance to meet her.  Please feel free to share these photos on your blogs and fan sites.

Haley Webb Photo Shoot

November 1, 2009

Some of you may know Haley Webb from The Final Destination and i luckily got to work with her on my last trip to LA.  This girl is a riot and one of the funniest girls I’ve met in a while and right off the bat I could tell that we were going to have a great shoot.  Her hair and makeup team where phenomenal and her manager had me rolling throughout the shoot.  Hopefully I’ll have the chance to work with her again soon.
